Understanding Google's PageRank Technology

Written by maychaell on 8:25 PM

In the world of Search Engine Optimization, Ranking plays such a vital part, that it is crucial to understand how it works if you want to achieve the highest rankings for your own websites.

There are many different facets to ranking, and it is important to remember that different search engines use different ranking methods, however, lets just focus our attention on Google's page ranking system.

Google's PageRank technology is in fact the very heart of the Google algorithm, and because it determines page ranking based on popularity, it can be likened to a giant electronic voting system. Using that terminology, It stands to reason that the page with the most votes achieves the highest PageRank on a scale of 0-10.

However, it is not just about attaining the most votes. Notice how Google explains PageRank voting:

"PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B..."

"Google looks at considerably more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; for example, it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important." Using these and other factors, Google provides its views on pages' relative importance."

It appears then, that not all "votes" are viewed in the same way. A page that already has many votes will carry more weight than one that only has a few.

So PageRank is determined not just by link quantity, but also by link source importance. So in order to increase your PageRank, you need to get as many links as possible from other websites into yours, especially sites with the higher PageRanks, as they can have an amazing impact on your rank. For example, just one link from a PR10 page would normally be enough to increase your websites rank to PR8, but to get to that same rank from a PR3 page would probably require somewhere in the region of about 350,000 links.

The way PageRank functions across the entire web is by means of a logarithmic pattern, where there are very few pages with a PR10 (PageRank 10, the highest you can get), but hundreds of thousands with a PR0 (the lowest). In order for the average to stay at 1, any increase in the PR of one page is offset by a very small reduction in the PR of every other page.

However, there other factors involved as well, such as the location of keywords on your web page. Now you may wonder what the relevance is regarding where your keywords are placed, does it really matter? With Google's PageRank, it does.

It would appear that the higher the particular keyword appears on the page, the higher the ranking, and this applies to your title tag as well. For example, if you had a website that sells laptops, which would be one of your keywords, but you didn't use the word "laptops" in your title tag, then your ranking would be lower than a website that did. This is because keyword placement is a fundamental aspect to search engine optimization and is something that Google's PageRank analyzes.

The frequency of keywords also plays a factor in PageRank. A page about laptops which uses that word 5 or 6 times, may receive a higher ranking than if you used that word only 2 or 3 times. Of course one must be carefully not to overdo it as that could be viewed as keyword stuffing, resulting in your ranking dropping like a tank falling from the sky, or worse, being banned altogether.

One thing is clear. Page ranking is a very precise science. We have only scratched the surface here as there is much more to understand when it comes to understanding Google's PageRank technology, and as an owner of MyInternetBusiness, I have spent allot of time studying this subject so that I can impart some helpful information to my readers.

Top SEO Myths

Written by maychaell on 11:20 AM

Plenty of unethical search engine marketers will take your money by making false promises without any hesitation. There are numerous reasons why your ranking may have changed, and in many cases they actually have nothing to do with anything that you did. Here are some top SEO myths:

Top ten search engine ranking can be guaranteed
Most of the SEO firms will advertise a guarantee to have you listed in the top ten rankings. No one other than the search engines themselves can guarantee any ranking. Don't trust. Make your decision from actual client successes, not empty promises and guarantees.

In-House SEO is quite Cheap
SEO professionals can get higher rankings comparatively faster because Search Engine Optimization and Marketing is complex, technical and has a steep learning curve. We also place a team at your disposal, including a copywriters, developers and SEO specialists and unless you have a room full of marketing staff dedicated to SEO it is hard to keep up. SEO professionals make you money by saving you that time and effort, at a cost that you can afford easily.

Search Engine Leads Are Worth Less
Search Engine leads are most qualified leads, because they come from people searching for the exact products and services which the search engines have you indexed. They are looking for you, not the other way around. Keep in mind that you must target the right keywords and that is the job of your SEO firm they will help you in choosing the right keywords.

Repeating keywords in the page will higher your rank
This one is quite tricky as sometimes it gives positive results and sometimes negative. Keyword density of 3 to 15% is recommended for tweaking the page for higher placement depending on the individual search engine. Combined with other optimization efforts and tweaks, the proper keyword density will get listed higher. A keyword density that is too high will get listed lower or penalized.

Hidden links in a page helps in better ranking
Keyword stuffing and hidden links in the page can get your site penalized or banned if detected. It is considered spamming by some engines. Most people think it's not worth the risk.

Reciprocal linking is quite helpful in better ranking
Outbound links to related and unrelated sites are factored into page rank. One way links count higher than reciprocated links. The more quality inbound links to your site, the higher the PR, but nobody knows exactly how Google factors their PR and their algorithm is constantly adjusted. A million links to and from unrelated sites could drop your PR.

Updations in site helps in ranking
By routine maintenance like removing outdated material, fixing broken links, queries, etc. and updating your pages regularly, you are signaling the bots and crawlers to come back and re-crawl your site for changes to their listings. To maintain high standings, you need to keep at it and tweak the pages for better results if necessary. If neglected, your standings could easily slip out of the top rankings as new competing sites get indexed and optimized.

Only keyword can improve your ranking, code or content doesn't matter in a site
If you want to steadily improve your ranking, you must make changes to your site that help the search engines spider it. You might temporarily raise your ranking by running regular queries and reports on search engines for your keywords but steady results are dependent on your willingness to optimize and tweak the code and content of your pages. A simple thing like fixing broken links can contribute to elevating your listings. It's one of the most overlooked search engine tweaks. Search engines will not continue to spider a site when it runs into a number of broken links.

Some Basics of Search Engine Optimization

Written by maychaell on 10:21 PM

As a result of the ever increasing popularity of the Internet, the number of people turning on to the online market for purchasing goods and services are rising. The challenge before any business is to attract this rising number of prospective online customers to their websites. Search engine optimization is defined as the process of increasing the number of visitors to a web site by ranking high in the search results.

In the main, search engine optimization consists of two types of techniques - on page SEO techniques and off page SEO techniques. On page SEO aims at increasing the quality of the content of the website whereas off page SEO aims at link building. Though the techniques adopted by both these methods are different, they both have the same ultimate goal - increasing the position of the website in the search engine results page.

Finding the right keywords for the purpose of on page search engine optimization is a very important step. Keyword research involves finding different keyword properties like popularity, competition, keyword effectiveness index or KEI, keyword effectiveness rank or KER etc. Once the keywords are finalised, they should be used to create good and effective content, used in the meta contents, title tags, heading tags, anchor texts, image alt tags and file names.

Off page search engine optimization involves the pursuance of link building strategies. It mainly include techniques like directory submission, search engine submissions, participating in forums and blogs, submitting press releases and classifieds, article submission, link exchange and other similar techniques. The main aim of off page search engine optimization is enhancing the link popularity of a website.

Search engine optimization is not a one-time effort, but a continuous process involving careful use of diverse techniques and meticulous tracking of results. There are a lot of companies around the world who provide services. But before choosing a particular company, you should make sure that they are not following any unethical or black hat SEO techniques for optimizing websites.

Keyword Research - 3 Tips on Doing Effective Keyword Research

Written by maychaell on 12:29 AM

Keyword research is the bread and butter of Internet Marketing and is critical to attracting traffic to your website. No wonder Perry Marshall says, If content is the king, keywords are the queen in the online world. To do

keyword research properly, you should not only have the right tools but also have the right mindset.

To be short, think like the customer and use your keyword research software accordingly. Let me explain this with

an example.

1. Backdoor Keywords: Assume that you are a Dog Obedience Trainer, and you want to write an article on dog obedience training. It is obvious that the term 'dog obedience training' is very competitive and hence the chances for you to be ranked high for this term is pretty slim. However you should consider an alternate way to do keyword research using related keyword related search terms.

Head over to the free Google external keyword tool which offers invaluable data and information on keywords. Type in dog obedience training in the search box and you will find a list of additional generated keywords. Along with the advertiser competition, you will also find the search volume for the month and the average search volume.

As you look into the list of generated keywords, you will find a number of keywords that you can rank for pretty highly in a short time period.

2. Long Tailed Keywords: Long tailed keywords can be the best keywords to go after. First these keywords are a lot more specific and hence the traffic trickling to your website may be ultra targetted. Let me explain with an example,

- Handbags
- Prada Handbags
- Prada Handbag Deals

Now each of the above keywords represent a different audience. The first keyword, handbags is too generic that the user maybe a kid looking to write an essay on Handbags. Prada handbags represents a different consumer, most likely someone who is familiar with the brand Prada and is either looking for more information on Prada Handbags or maybe interested in buying them. You can bet your bottom dollars that the user who types, Prada Handbag Deals is a consumer who is feverishy looking to buy a Prada Handbag. Note that the searches for Prada Handbag deals will be significantly less than the search term Handbags. However the conversion resulting from the keyword, Prada Handbag deals will be way higher than the keyword handbags.

3. Using the Right Keyword Research Tools: Know that to do effective keyword research, you often have to use a mix of different keyword tools. Below is a list of highly recommended keyword tools.

- Google External Keyword Tool
- Keyword Elite
- Wordtracker

Along with Google External Keyword Research tool, Wordtracker and Keyword Elite are the other two keyword tools to take advantage of. If you are running short of budget, I advise you to go for Wordtracker before you become a Keyword Elite member.

Remember at the end of the day, the keyword research softwares at your disposal are tools. It is upto you to make use of it and gain the maximum leverage.

Should You Still Pay Attention to Meta Tags For SEO?

Written by maychaell on 10:47 PM

Should you still give credence to meta tags for your search engine optimization campaigns?

Yes, meta tags still matter a lot in SEO.

The 3 most important meta tags in order are the Title, Keywords and Description. All these will affect how you rank on the search engines.

If you have these done right, you will have a leg up over the competition.

I'm going to go through tips for optimizing your Title, Keywords and Description so you can completely 'own' the search engines for your targeted keyword phrase and really pulling in masses of free traffic for years to come:

Title: Include your main keyword phrase, your root keyword phrase. Keep your article short, and not too long. You can include different keyword different phrases in your title if you are optimizing for several different keywords.

Keywords: Include your main keyword here again, but also include other 'LSI' keywords, keywords that are related to your main keyword phrase. For example, if your main keyword phrase is golf clubs, an 'LSI' keyword might be putter or irons (found those words from a quick search on Wikipedia). You can also do a search using Google's Keyword Suggestion tool and come up with alternative keywords. This is like hearing from the horse's mouth itself as to what keywords are relevant and truly LSI keywords.

Description: Again, do the same thing here. Include some LSI keywords in there, but make your description readable by humans because your description will appear in the search engines.

The stuff that don't matter so much anymore: one-way links, keyword density. Those stuff will still affect your SEO rankings, but they are no longer vital these days. But you do still want to pay attention to meta tags!

What is Search Engine Optimization Actually?

Written by maychaell on 10:27 PM

All of us who have Internet businesses and own websites realize that our businesses will live or die according to the amount of people that are visiting our website. Although there certainly are a lot of different ways that you can pull traffic to your website, one way that tends to send you qualified traffic on a regular basis is search engine optimization, or SEO for short. This is something that almost all Internet marketers have dabbled in at some point, some with great success and others who get disappointed and give up on their search engine optimization efforts altogether.

The simple fact of the matter is, there are really only a few basic principles that are behind search engine optimization. From those few basic principles, however, there are dozens if not hundreds of different ways that you can expand and grow your efforts. Understanding the basics of search engine optimization is not really that difficult to do but excelling at it may take a little bit of work on your part. Here are the two basics of search engine optimization and how you can use them in your marketing efforts.

On Page Factors - Any good search engine optimization campaign starts out with factors that involve the webpage itself. If you're going after a specific keyword or perhaps a keyword phrase, you want to make sure that you include it in the title tag of the webpage and perhaps prominently toward the top of the webpage as well. Although there is some speculation on the exact percentage of saturation that should occur on the webpage, using it naturally is typically the best bet. You should also use related keywords in order to pick up on any latent semantic indexing that is happening within the search engines.

Off Page Factors - These are generally more important to your search engine rankings than the on page factors. In order for you to rank well, you need to display to the search engines that your website is popular on the Internet when it comes to that particular keyword or keyword phrase. You would do this by getting links back to your website from a variety of different other sites. You can do this by commenting on blog posts, writing articles and distributing them or simply asking somebody for a link back to your site. The more links you have, the better your rankings will be, provided you don't try to game the system.

Although it certainly is possible for you to take care of all of your search engine optimization efforts yourself, many people find that it becomes cumbersome to their business. There are plenty of good SEO companies out there that will take care of the entire process for you and allow you to concentrate on other areas of your business. This is one of the best ways for you to make sure that you're not only ranking well in the search engines, you're taking care of the traffic once they land on your webpage.

Benefits of Employing a Search Engine Marketing Firm

Written by maychaell on 3:52 PM

If you are in any way involved in Internet marketing, you probably realize exactly how busy of a lifestyle it can be. Owning your own Internet business can be one of the most rewarding things that you can possibly do but unfortunately, it can also spread you so thin that success is always out of your reach. In order for you to truly be successful with your Internet business, you need to hire out some of the work that needs to be done on a daily basis. One of these is search engine optimization, something that no Internet business should be without. If you are busy with your Internet business, and most of us are, looking for a good search engine marketing firm can do wonders for us.

The first thing that you should look for in any good search engine marketing firm is reliability. One of the main problems that the Internet has given to us is that people are able to easily make promises but following through on them is often a difficult thing. Make sure that the search engine marketing firm that you choose is going to be able to follow through on all of its promises and to truly help you with your efforts. After all, putting your business into the hands of a marketing firm that is not going to do what is necessary to make it thrive is like throwing your business away.

One of the main things that any search engine marketing firm is going to do is to help you with your search engine optimization. This is actually a process that takes in several steps and you may need to get involved in it to a certain extent. Although the marketing firm will certainly be able to take care of the majority of it, you may be asked exactly what kind of traffic you're looking for. They will then use this knowledge in order to choose the keywords and keyword phrases that they will specifically target within the search engines in order to send you free traffic. If they are able to choose the keywords based on the information that you give them, you should find that the traffic that you get is very targeted and pays off well.

Another thing that a search engine marketing firm can do for you is to help you with any paid search engine rankings that you are trying to achieve. Free search engine traffic is always going to be something that we strive to get on a regular basis but at times, they can pay off quite nicely if we do a little bit of paid advertising as well. Because pay per click search engine marketing is based on keywords, much the same as free search engine optimization, a good search engine marketing firm will be able to walk you through this process. Not only that, they will be able to help you set it up in such a way that your payout will be at a minimum and your profit will be a maximum.

How You Can Optimize Your Website For Search Engines?

Written by maychaell on 3:52 PM

What is SEO? It stands for Search Engine Optimization. What is Search Engine Optimization? How does it work? How can we optimize Search Engines?

Let us start with defining the concept of SEO. Are you aware of browser optimization? That is clearing all temporary Internet files stored into the browser's virtual memory to make it function normally as it should.

What is a browser? Browser is a program - a tool you use to go online. If you want to visit a website you open a browser. That browser is part of the Operating System you have with your computer. Common examples of a browser are as follows: Internet Explorer (with several versions), Mozilla Firefox, Netscape, and Safari.

Now that you are already aware of how browser optimization works, let us proceed with knowing what a search engine optimization is. As the term implies, Search Engine, meaning a program or a tool used to search for particular information on the web. Each program functions the way it's designed to perform. Users input an entry or any information they want to know from the Internet. This is using keywords. Search Engine processes the request, send it to the web and gives out matching information from the web. Most popular search engines include: Yahoo Search, Google Search and MSN Search.

Thus, we can come up with an understanding that Search Engine Optimization is simply a process of improving the functionality of the search engine. Just like optimizing browsers, we tend to optimize search engines for them to work properly and even to improve its functionality. Optimizing search engines is just similar with optimizing the website. There are so many ways to optimize you website's search engine but the first thing you need to do to know your website and to double check it's content. Once you found out that your website contains useful information, then for sure you will be able to optimize a powerful search engine.

SEO Techniques

Written by maychaell on 1:20 PM

These are some of the techniques to be the first in any search engines results:

Domain name. You must consider this in the first place. This is your site where in you will input all your good articles. Your domain must be relevant to the content of your webpage.

Keywords. Always use keywords that are being sought for over the Internet. Keywords play a really big deal in all SEO articles and web sites. Also, use synonyms of the keyword you are using. Entitle your page using your keyword phrase. If you were to put a hyperlink or anchor in your page, be sure to include your keywords. Keyword density is also important. Never use too many keywords in a paragraph or article because your article will be marked as spam if there are so many keywords used.

Quality Content. This is what others will say about your article. It should catch more readers. Thus, creates more traffic to your site. Readers who could read your article must be impressed by the thought you are imparting to them. Write or select article that could best describe your site or your article. Input as many information as possible in your article because that's what readers are looking for.

If your site and your article contain even just these three components, you can expect a lot of traffic to your site and a good ranking of your article in most of the search engines. That will provide you a good career in writing in cyber world industry. So, what are you waiting for? Look for a good topic now, and write the best you can.

Why the Need For Search Engine Optimization?

Written by maychaell on 12:28 PM

With all those professional looking easy to install website graphics available why is there the need for search engine optimization? Doesn't the appearance of a website alone make that site more attractive to search engines? In a word, NO.

SEO makes sites more compliant with the rules and policies that govern the internet search engines. The appearance of your site matters very little when people are searching the internet for certain topics or information. You see, if your site does not contain content related to what is being promoted the search engines will not show your site in the search ranking results.

The use of SEO tools is an absolute must if you expect to attract search engine traffic. This type of traffic can be quite considerable in volume over time. When people use search engines they enter in keywords to tell the search engines the type of results they would like to see. If a site does not contain content that's consistent with its title, keywords, or description, search engines will rate the site poorly. A weak rating will get poor exposure in any search results. Poor exposure means little traffic.

The better a site is optimized the higher it will be rated. Obviously this should equate out to more traffic to your site.

Just how exactly do you optimize a website for the search engines?
Well there are many ways to enhance your site in the 'eyes' of the search engines.
Let's quickly review 4 fundamental optimization techniques that should get you results.

Keywords

The proper use of keywords within the content of your site is a must with search engines. Determine those popular words and phrases that can be used to describe what your site is all about and use them conservatively throughout the content. Do not overuse these words or phrases since search engines will recognize this as a flagrant attempt to attract traffic and rank your site poorly. Your content should flow in a natural conversational manner and this would be difficult with the obvious overuse of certain words or phrases.

Site Description

Be sure your description uses a key phrase or word within it. Also insure your description accurately conveys the site content.

Site Title

Again as with the description be sure if possible to use a key phrase or word in the title to reinforce the correlation between the content and the title itself.

Associate with similar sites

By associating with sites that have similar content or themes such as yours you can participate in links exchanges and page transfers. Search engines love the inbound and outbound traffic affiliated with various websites sharing info, references, and of course visitors. This further validates a site resulting in a higher search ranking.

Realizing now the need for search engine optimization, there's no reason why you shouldn't take the simple but required action to maximize your online results. Here's to your online success!

10 Common SEO Mistakes

Written by maychaell on 9:17 AM

There's a huge amount of advice out there about how to optimize your site for search engines. However, despite this the same mistakes keep on cropping up again and again.

Here's a list of the 10 most common search engine optimization (SEO) mistakes:

1) Overuse of Flash. Google recently announced that they can now index flash websites but it's still not advisable to design whole websites or the main navigation in flash.

2) Ignoring Title Tags. Title Tags are possibly the most important element used by search engines to determine the topic of a certain web page. Ignoring title tags or simply inserting your company name as the title will ensure that you won't rank highly for any competitive keywords. Similarly, ensure that each web page of your site has a unique title tag.

3) Using Images as Headings. Keywords are still very important when wishing to rank highly for keywords and inserting your headings as images will result in search engines being unable to read the title and therefore determine what it says. This is an important opportunity lost as titles frequently contain your target keywords.

4) Ignoring URL structure. Including keywords within your URL structure will help to give your web page a boost in search engines. Also, don't use dynamic URLs which contain many elements such as equal signs or question marks. Static URLs are much easier for Google to crawl.

5) Internal Linking. This is one of the most frequent mistakes, yet internal linking is one of the best ways to improve the rankings of the different pages within your site. Make sure that each web page isn't further than two or three clicks from your home page. Also, always link to pages with your target keywords rather than 'click here'.

6) Poor Keyword Placement. An added emphasis is placed by search engines on the first 100 words of a web page. Ensure that you place your target keywords and keyword phrases within this content.

7) Same Meta Description and Keywords. Although search engines tend to ignore the meta description and keywords when it comes to ranking sites, they do still consider them when determining what pages contain duplicate content. Using the same meta description and keywords across multiple pages increases the likelihood that some of your pages will be filtered out by search engines.

8) Duplicate pages. Make sure that search engines only index one version of your website, otherwise you can end up receiving a duplicate content penalty. For example, don't have your website appearing on two different URLs - redirect one to the other.

9) Using incorrect redirects. Sometimes a web page moves location and its previous URL must be redirected to its new location. Always use a 301 redirect to do this. 302 redirects are used for temporary redirection and can result in a Google penalty.

10) Buried Content. Over time many websites and blogs create a huge amount of content which simply ends up being buried within the site. Use internal linking and a clear navigational structure to keep all the content within your site a maximum of three clicks away from your homepage.

Wordtracker and Keyword Discovery - How Do They Compare?

Written by maychaell on 9:55 AM

I have often been asked by readers for more in-depth information on what I think of Keyword Discovery compared to Wordtracker. As you know, I have mainly focused on sharing my expertise in Keyword Forensics and have written two e-books on how to make the best use of Wordtracker for researching behaviors. One of the reasons I have not talked more about Keyword Discovery is because it is a rather completely different system, with different KEI values and frankly, I have not wanted to mix the two. But in fairness to our readers, I think it is an honest question and it deserves to be addressed.

No tool is perfect. While I have personally leaned on Wordtracker for years from the beginning because of it's behavioral research aspects, each keyword research tool has it's own strengths. As a starting point, before I get into any further in depth on any teaching, I think the best thing to do is give you some strengths and weaknesses of both and that will help you make your own informed decisions.

Here is a simple comparison that identifies the strengths of each program. This is based on my own personal experience and primarily where search engine optimization is involved.

Wordtracker - Keyword Forensics - WT has the ability to tap into hidden evidence of user search to find the phrases that "tell a story." Fascinating and very powerful way to quickly mine great data.

Keyword Discovery - Keyword Discovery does not have the same advantage with respect to this type of research. You can find great data, but not the same behaviorally related detail that without doing some digging.

Wordtracker: KEI effectiveness - Keyword effectiveness index indicates the probable effectiveness of a phrase based on a unit of measurement. Higher the number the better.

Keyword Discovery: KEI effectiveness - Keyword effectiveness index in KD works fine as well but is based on a completely different scale of 1 to 10. Don't confuse the two.

Wordtracker: Offers Reports for Purchase - Wordtracker sells a variety of other reports starting from 10,000 keywords for $69.00 to a report of the top 20 million most searched phrases for about $54,000US.

Wordtracker offers reports in quantities of:
* 10,000
* 20,000
* 100,000
* 500,000
* 1 million, 5 million and 20 million in size.

Keyword Discovery: Reports for Purchase - Keyword Discovery also offers Top Keyword Search Term reports of 10,000 for $99.95 which is a little more money. But the benefit you have with Keyword Discovery is that you can also order their Top term reports based on:

* Historical data
* News data
* Premium data
* E-bay data
* or based on shopping data

Keyword Discovery also will sell you very focused lists that they call "Exhaustive Lists of keywords."

Wordtracker: Historical Research Data - Not yet

Keyword Discovery: Historical Research Data - Yes it is available

Wordtracker: Languages Available - English US data, English UK data

Keyword Discovery: Languages Available - English plus Dutch, French, German, Italian, Spanish and several other languages.

Wordtracker: Database Size - Wordtracker has a database of approximately 300 to 350 million queries within the last 100 days. Wordtracker Data comes from the Metacrawlers.

Keyword Discovery: Database Size - Keyword Discovery collects search term data from close to different 200 search engines world wide. Their historical global Keyword database contains over 36 billion searches.

Wordtracker: Seasonally Related Data - Not available yet

Keyword Discovery: Seasonally Related Data - Keyword Discovery search data can be displayed in a graphical format to help identify seasonal search trends over the previous 12 months.

Wordtracker: Industry Keywords Tool - Nothing comparable yet

Keyword Discovery: Industry Keywords - Industry Keywords is a tool that tracks the most popular search terms that drive actual traffic to sites in any selected industry. This data enables you to compare the keywords you are currently getting traffic for, with that of your industry competitors.

The purpose of this article is not to say one is better than the other. But depending on your specific needs, you should be aware of all of the available options there are out there and choose what works best for you. I highly recommend both of these tools and services to all SEO professionals and Webmasters who want access to great data. I will share more information on these subjects in the future.

Search Engine Optimization - How it Helps

Written by maychaell on 10:11 AM

Search Engine optimization (SEO) is the concept of altering a website to make it user friendly and increase the probability of it being read by the search engine bots and achieving the desired position in the Search Engine Result Pages.Just launching a website and placing it on a few search engines is not enough to expect that visitors will flock to your site.

The main aim of search engine optimization is to increase the visibility of a web site, push it to be among the high ranking sites, and increase the conversion rates, which means converting the surfers who click on the web sites into actual buyers. You should have all the information about your prospective buyers. You should know whether your prospective buyers are just clicking on your site and not buying anything, whether they are subscribing or downloading, or whether they are just surfing and moving onto next site.

To change all these passive actions into active ones, your company will require Search engine optimization (SEO) services.

These services should be dynamic and client specific. If the conversion rate is not healthy, you are bound to lose your prospective customers and that too to your rival site.Search engine optimization (SEO) increases traffic to your site and create new business and vigorous market for your products. Main search engines deal with around 400 million web searches everyday, day after day and an effective SEO can help you get some piece of this sweet pie.

Search engine optimization provides better returns on money invested than other conventional forms of internet marketing such as banner campaigns and email marketing. SEO can be seen as a long term investment because after a website has been optimized for different search engines, it can remain at the top in the rankings for longer period of time.

So, to popularize your website, the first logical step is to make it content-rich. Using keywords that are better than the number one ranking site is the second key to increasing ranking of your site. You should accept the fact that there are no sure-shot secrets of obtaining high rankings for your site. You should know what keywords have helped the leader to be the top ranking site and then constantly monitor them and rework information.

Use Brand Building and SEO in Tandem

Written by maychaell on 8:57 AM

While smaller companies will always struggle to justify a large marketing budget, it is possible to make what is available work twice as hard by doubling up on objectives and results. Never more so than in the complimentary areas of brand building and search engine optimisation.

Being a start-up is no excuse for poor marketing. With the social media explosion and proliferation of online opportunities, it's both easy and inexpensive to take your marketing viral and use search engine optimisation to steal your rivals' thunder.

So what if you can't afford a full page ad in the Times? Does it matter that you won't ever see your brand splashed wantonly across the monthly glossies? Online marketing via creative SEO is actually a much more powerful tool. After all, what percentage of your target market buys every edition of the print media? If they're reading on the Tube or listening to competitor ads on the radio while stuck in traffic, are these people whose eyes and ears you are paying for truly in a position to actually dial your number or log on to place an order at that second anyway?

Compare that scenario with this - you get a positive review on a third party site (think Amazon, Kelkoo or Yelp), that prompts clients past and present to comment. A potential purchaser happens across the discussion while researching their upcoming buy and they log on to your site fully briefed by their peers on your brand integrity. Surely this is a much more productive way of wooing your client base?

With upwards of 200-million users registered with at least one social networking site, this grassroots approach can be used to drive targeted traffic and build online brand buzz. Using these bookmarking sites, forums, blogs, press distribution channels and the like strays into search engine optimisation territory. That's what is so fabulous about online brand building. Not only can it be done on a fraction of the budget but the upshot is increased search engine placement.

The two main considerations for SEO are on-page content and off page referrals (link backs). Coincidently, both of these play a significant role in online brand building. Keyword rich press releases and articles get across important promotional messages, reinforcing core brand values and aiding brand penetration. They are also an essential element of any modern optimisation campaign. Distributed online via pr channels, RSS feeds and e-zines they generate valuable links, helping to increase visibility by pushing the site through search engine result pages.

With a good press release or article, the average company has a veritable arsenal of SEO and brand building opportunities. There's also a huge scope to get creative and beat the big budgets at their own game. A lack of money to spend on advertising does not drain creativity. In fact, the best digital marketing initiatives have been fuelled by a penny pinching borne of necessity.

After adding the content to the web site in question, the PR item can be used as a starting point for creative blogging and bookmarking activities. These actions create the links needed for optimisation success while building a grass roots community and facilitating client interaction with the brand. A quirky piece will start a flurry of bookmarking and online commentary, driving quality traffic and raising profile. And, with this traffic, links and profile follow - as does a better position in search results.

Smart SEO Strategies For Quick Link Building

Written by maychaell on 9:23 AM

The better the number of backlinks you have the greater your website has a chance of ranking in search engines. This stands true even today but its not just links rather quality backlinks which can earn you first page placements in major search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN. All this will depend upon the smart SEO strategy which you adopt and besides some good links you could also earn some Google Juice which will enable your website to get some wonderful page ranks which could go a long way towards improving the marketability of your website.

Let me tell you inbound links have more importance as compared to outbound links so just follow some of my SEO tips for building links and your website could top the charts of search engines and attract visitors to your website.

Given below are some of my personal SEO strategies which I adopt for creating backlinks for my website.

Directory Submission

This is an old age SEO technique for gaining backlinks which seems to have lost some sheen in today's scenario but you can bank upon it for gaining some harmless links. Though free links can take a few months to get accepted but believe me it will worth the wait.

Article Submission

Another good SEO technique for building links which could get cached within a short period of time as compared to directories. Just opt for some good article directories and you could end up with around three links per article. Please refrain from self promotional articles or your efforts could go down the drain. Thumb rule is to write general articles and you could end up gaining some valuable links for your website.

Blog comments

Once in a while you can post some intelligent comments on high PR blogs which can earn you some page rank juice besides links also. If implemented smartly this SEO strategy can get you some high page rank by the next update.

Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking sites are another way to increase your link count but don't overdo it or you might end up with their wrath. Over a period of time several spam sites have used social bookmarking websites as a dumping ground for their links but if you act within restraint you could use them as a way to give a push to your link count. Another smart SEO strategy but please don't overdo it or you could get penalized.

Link Exchange

This SEO technique can also be used but it should not be overdone and you should only end up exchanging links with websites having a PR same as your website or higher than it as only then it will prove beneficial for your website.

Trade Links

Though search engines don't approve of such technique and label it under black hat SEO technique but one or two links purchased from websites of repute could do well for the ranking and PR of your website.

Just follow some of my link building tips and experience a change in the positioning and traffic statistics of your website within a short period of time.

SEO - Directory Submission

Written by maychaell on 9:38 AM

Research shows that search engines contribute most of the traffic on a website Visitors are likely to visit website listed from pages 1-3. Other than that, they sometimes neglect. Directory submission involves the process of listing your website for the search engines to pick up. This can be a lengthy process since it may require some approval, however it will reflect a good return of investment in done correctly.

Once a websites URL is submitted on a directory, it could get a decent amount of traffic. Directories hold millions of websites categorized for various fields and if your website is under a good category then there is your chance. Through directory submission, search engines will have some ideas of what your website is all about increasing keyword relevancy.

In promoting a website directory submission should be the first move. Let the directories know that your site exist and search engines will be checking it. Websites that are submitted to a directory will mostly get more traffic. Search engines will look for matching websites from the directory and analyze it. Adding a website to a directory will also increase the number of back links to your website.

There are hundreds of directories in existence today. Some offer free service and some are paid. Enlisting your website to directories may take time and not all directories will assure your website to be on top. It`s worth a try though. Try to submit your website to as many directories. This will help promote your website to search engines.

How to Create a Search Engine Optimized Website?

Written by maychaell on 9:24 AM

If you are thinking of writing articles to top in Google ranking, think twice. No article, even if it is written by the best writer in the world, would be in the number one ranking of Google absolutely. Google`s ranking vary from topic to topic. So might want to think how to get hot traffic to your site or article instead.

First of all, write the best article you can because that's what makes your website alive. Articles are the ones sought over the Internet and not the website. Website contains all those articles. So, both website and articles must have something in common. And that is easy.

How to get a good traffic to your site? There's one word to help you with that, back links. These are actually anchors or links that you have incorporated on somebody's website. You can either write articles and have your links added. Forum posting will also increase your back links since you will be allowed to add signature with your link.

If your site have these qualities, it is easy to get the number one ranking in Google for your category. Once you're on the top, never stop there. You might be at the first rank today, but you will not be tomorrow. Everyday people look for something new and if your site just focuses on the same topic everyday, you will not get any further. You will stay as you are and would be left behind. So research for hot topics everyday and make your own article regarding that topic.

Always upgrade your site everyday and make it the best SEO site.

SEO - How to Calculate Conversions For SEO

Written by maychaell on 9:49 AM

SEO, also known as Search Engine Optimization is the process of getting your website to rank well on the natural listings of search engines such as Google and Yahoo. As the industry becomes more educated on the topic of SEO, many companies are now engaging in the optimization process so as to get high rankings for their websites.

However, SEO is not always about ranking and position. You need to look at traffic and conversion too. When your site is being optimized, you need to track the amount of organic search engine traffic that comes to your website. For most web statistics tracking software, you will be able to know the exact keywords that searchers type to find your website. Tracking of organic traffic is very important as you can analyze the information and fine tune your optimization process.

Now that you know the amount of organic traffic that you are getting, it is time for you to calculate conversion rate. Before you can calculate conversion, you need to determine the goal of your website. In other words, what you wish to achieve from your website? Is your website an e-commerce store that generates direct online sales? Or are you intending to use your website to generate leads for your services or products, and close the deals offline? After you have determined the goal of your website, we will have a KPI or Key Performance Indicator to work on.

If you run an e-commerce site, your conversion calculation will be pretty straight-forward. You need to have a web statistic tracking software to track the path that visitors take when they reach your site. Then, use the number of sales resulted from organic traffic and divides it by the total organic traffic to your website. Then multiply it by 100. This will be your conversion rate for SEO.

If your business deals with offline sales and services, what you can do is to place an unique phone number on your website that is not use elsewhere. So whenever there is any enquiry to this phone number, you will know that it comes from your online marketing effort. Then, instruct your phone operator to always ask anyone who calls in on how he or she finds your website. When tracking conversion for offline sales and services, it is near impossible to get a 100% accurate number. But at least, you will have some numbers to work on.

Any marketing effort needs to be measured in order to produce good result. I know that it is very tedious to measure some of the online marketing campaign like SEO. You can choose to just look at keyword rankings and positions. But if you do not know the actual conversion rate and numbers from your SEO effort, you will never know how well your website fares in the optimization war.

About Search Engine Optimization?

Written by maychaell on 10:38 AM

The main purpose of SEO or Search Engine Optimization is to be the first in Google ranking or any search engine when it comes to popularity of searches by the users. A lot of techniques have been used.

One of the most common tricks before was the keyword density in an article. A keyword is used as many times possible in a sentence or paragraph so that it can be easily searched by almost all search engines. Some, even used transparent codes in their pages to hide those keywords that appears a hundred times. But as this kind of SEO technique were discovered to be harmful to the industry, search engines has been configured not just to search for keywords or similar words. Google has a certain way in searching for keywords in their search engines.

Google search engine is the first to rank the popularity of an article or page. It does not only searches for a density of words but a content of the page itself. It also searches for videos, images, links and another articles related to the topic.

In SEO world, good title plays a great role. And title must also appear in the first paragraph. If possible, keywords should be found with in the title and keywords should appear at least three times in the first paragraph or in all paragraphs without defeating its thought. The sentence structure should be unique, spelling should all be correct to maintain quality of work. Choose a good topic, write a good article. That would play the trick in SEO world.

How to Get High Ranking in Google

Written by maychaell on 1:00 PM

Once you have your website ready, the next step is to introduce it to the search engines. There is no point having a wonderful website, but people are still not aware of it due to low ranking by search engines. Your website may be listed among the few last pages in a search result with thousands of pages. In order to get high ranks, the keywords are important. The titles, Meta tags and the first paragraph is important as well.

Tips to optimize your websites so that they are visible to search engines are:

Useful contents- to promote your website, the very first thing that you should consider are the contents, you may have a website with good design and has penetrated the top lists in search engine results, but if your contents are bad people will not come back anymore. You may be able to hit the target traffic, but if you are selling products your sales are not going anywhere.

Keyphrases- this is critical because it works to label your website and whenever someone searches using the keyphrases, the search engines will list your website in the results. The keyphrases should not be too common and preferably they are specific to what your website is all about. Usually people will pay more attention to keywords, but it is harder to obtain a high rank with keywords alone. Come up with a number of possible searches and use the best phrase from the list. There are services available on the internet which helps you with choosing keyphrase and keywords, such as WordTracker and KeywordDiscovery.

Titles- the titles for the contents in your website should not only be visible to people but also to the search engines. The rule is to use keyphrases as the titles. The recommended length of a title is between 15 to 20 words.

Meta tags- although one of the biggest search engines does not really pay attention to Meta tags, there are other search engines that still do that. It is still worth the effort to use Meta tags on public pages. Briefly, the Meta tag contains a short description of the webpage.

First paragraph- the first paragraph is important as it includes the description of the contents in a webpage. It contains the elaborated version of the title and Meta tags.

Avoid being classified as spam- there is a long list of don'ts that you should follow to avoid your website from being classified as a spam. An example is to keep the amount of keyphrases to a maximum of 10 in the contents, title and even in the Meta tags. Once a website has been classified as spam, the search engines will not list it.

The above steps are the major players in getting high ranking by the search engines. It is pointless to create a wonderful website with good contents when there is only a small amount of people who knows about it due to low ranking by search engines. Thus, to generate a large traffic to your website, you will have to promote your website to the search engines before anything else.

How to clean your Mother Board

Written by maychaell on 11:24 AM

If you have not done the inspection mentioned in the previous article - How to Clean your Case, now is the time to do so. Look at the blades of the fan in the back of the computer. Also look at any vents. Is there clusters of dust there? Is there grime caked on to it? If so, the inside needs to be cleaned. If the fan blades are clean but it has been several years since you have cleaned the motherboard or if the computer is around cigarette smoke, it probably should be cleaned anyway. Dust and particles in the air (like cigarette smoke) can build up on the circuitry of the motherboard and cause it to heat up and/or corrode.

The first thing that you need to do is unplug your computer. Then open up the case to get access to the motherboard. Cases open differently. If you don't know how to open your case, look on the back of your computer along the edge for some screws. These screws may hold on side panels or an upside down U shaped panel that covers the sides and top. Removing the screws will allow you to take off the cover. Other cases have the screws on the front of the computer. To get access to these screws, you must first remove the front panel by pressing a hidden latch. The cover is there to give easy access to the inside of your computer, so if you look hard enough, you should be able to figure out how to remove it.

Remember that if you touch anything on the motherboard, you should be grounded by either touching the metal frame of the computer with your other hand or by wearing a special grounding device.

The goal of cleaning the motherboard is to remove all dust and debris from the motherboard and all components inside of the case. This can be done using one of three methods.

The preferred method is to use a can of compressed air to blow it out. Always hold the can in an up-right position to prevent the propellent chemicals which can damage or corrode components from coming out. Dust and dirt should be blown away from the motherboard and out of the case.

Another way to remove dust is to use a vacuum. The common advice is to only use a battery operated vacuum because an AC powered vacuum causes static and static can ruin the motherboard. I have used an AC powered vacuum (before I knew that it was not recommended) to clean my motherboard many times and it has never caused any problems, but I may have just been lucky. When using the vacuum, keep the nozzle a couple of inches away from the motherboard or any other components so that it does not come in contact with them and so that any small parts are not sucked into the vacuum.

If you do not have a can of compressed air or a vacuum, you can use a dry cloth and brush to clean the motherboard. Be careful not to dislodge or break anything using this method.

While cleaning the motherboard, be careful not to unplug any cables or connections or to dislodge any loose components, such as, jumpers.

Methodically clean the whole inside of the case going over all of the motherboard from one end to the other and all other components. Don't forget to clean the fans and heat sinks. Do not open up the power supply box or stick anything in it beyond the fan. If you do, you could get a shocking surprise and ruin your computer.

If your computer does not work when you put it back together, something was obviously dislodged during the cleaning. Open the case back up and push all connections and cards into their slots. Look for anything that may have become disconnected.

Cleaning the motherboard is probably the most dangerous form of cleaning but it is necessary to prevent an early death of your computer.

Internet And Business Online

Written by maychaell on 1:22 PM

The best role of business online is that of interdependency. We’ve all heard the old saying, “No man is an island.” When it comes to online business this is especially true.

If a business owner who takes their business into the online world determines they will be self reliant and never accept the help of anyone then that individual will not be in business long enough to change their minds.

It is accepted fact that the greatest tool for long-term exposure to your website is through Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Without it potential customers can’t find you. It is unreasonable to expect that you can adequately develop a website without optimizing your website for the best possible search engine ranking.

Search engines also place a high value on sites that have links placed on existing sites. These ‘backlinks’ demonstrate to search engines that others trust your site. By placing your link on their website these other businesses indicate a trust and recommendation for your site.

In effect the two strategies listed above rely exclusively on what others can do for you when it comes to your online business.

Shirley Temple once proclaimed in her movie Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, “I’m very self-reliant.” American westerns are filled with lines dealing with pulling yourself up by your bootstraps and holding down the fort. Many of us have grown up to believe if we want something done right we have to do it ourselves.

This thinking is in opposition to the rules associated with an online business.

The online world can only exist because people share. Individuals share technology, but the also share links, reviews, blogs, forums and a wide range of other marketing strategies that find a commingling of interdependency.

In online business you are as dependent on others as they may be on you. Unlike the word ‘dependent’, the term interdependent indicates a mutual dependency. In other words you are depending on others to help provide links back to your site while they are equally dependent on you (or others) for the success of their business.

Have you really taken a proactive approach to networking? It’s possible you are reading this today and you’ve never considered asking someone else to place a link to your site on his or her online business site.

It can feel awkward depending on others to achieve online success especially if you’ve been lead to believe reliance on others is also a sign of imposing on their otherwise brilliant generosity.

I suppose it could be a deep-seated sense of pride that makes it hard to consider the need to ask others for help. However, the truth is depending on others is really what has made the Internet possible. The growth of this online world is comprised of a link of computers, networks and servers that are connected in a way that provides the maximum benefit for all.

Building an online business can feel a bit like trying to build a house of cards. Without the ability to rely on the other ‘cards’ around you it is virtually impossible to build.

Interdependence. This is the essence of online business.

A Guide on RSS Tool

Written by maychaell on 7:04 PM

RSS is an abbreviation that has evolved into the following, depending on their versions:

• RDF Site Summary (also known as RSS 0.9; the first version of RSS)
• Rich Site Summary (also known as RSS 0.91; a prototype)
• Really Simple Syndication (also known as RSS 2.0)

Today, RSS stands for 'Really Simple Syndication', and it has the following 7 existing formats or versions:

• 0.90
• 0.91
• 0.92
• 0.93
• 0.94
• 1.0
• 2.0

RSS tools refer to a group of file formats that are designed to share headlines and other web content (this may be a summary or simply 1 to 2 lines of the article), links to the full versions of the content (the full article or post), and even file attachments such as multimedia files. All of these data is delivered in the form of an XML file (XML stands for eXtensible Markup Language), which has the following common names:

• RSS feed
• Webfeed
• RSS stream
• RSS channel

They are typically shown on web pages as an orange rectangle that usually has the letters XML or RSS in it.

RSS feeds can be used to deliver any kind of information. Some of these 'feeds' include:

• Blogs feed - each blog entry is summarized as a feed item. This makes blog posts easier to scan, enabling 'visitors' to zoom in on their items of interest.

• Article feed - this alerts readers whenever there are new articles and web contents available.

• Forum feed - this allows users to receive forum posts and latest discussion topics.

• Schedule feed - this allows users (such as schools, clubs, and other organizations) to broadcast events and announce schedule changes or meeting agendas.

• Discounts or Special feed - this is used to enable users (such as retail and online stores) to 'deliver' latest specials and discounted offers.

• Ego or News Monitoring - this enables users to receive 'filtered' headlines or news that are based on a specific phrase or keyword.

• Industry-specific feed - used by technical professionals in order to market, promote, or communicate with current (and prospective) customers and clients within their specific industries.

RSS feeds enable people to track numerous blogs and news sources at the same time. To produce an RSS feed, all you need is the content or the article that you want to publicize and a validated RSS text file. Once your text file is registered at various aggregators (or 'news readers'), any external site can then capture and display your RSS feed, automatically updating them whenever you update your RSS file.

RSS tools are useful for sites that add or modify their contents on a regular basis. They are especially used for 'web syndication' or activities that involve regular updates and/or publications, such as the following:

• News websites - as used by major news organizations such as Reuters, CNN, and the BBC.
• Marketing
• Bug reports
• Personal weblogs

There are many benefits to using RSS feeds. Aside from being a great supplemental communication method that streamlines the communication needs of various sectors, RSS tools and feeds can also have tremendous benefits in your business, particularly in the field of internet marketing.

RSS tools and feeds provide Internet users with a free (or cheap) and easy advertising or online marketing opportunity for their businesses. Below are some of the RSS features that can help make your internet marketing strategies more effective.

1. Ease in content distribution services. With RSS, your business can be captured and displayed by virtually any external site, giving you an easy way to 'spread out' and advertise them.

2. Ease in regular content updates. With RSS, web contents concerning your business can now be automatically updated on a daily (and even hourly) basis. Internet users will be able to experience 'real time' updates as information in your own file (such as new products and other business-related releases) is changed and modified simultaneously with that of the RSS feeds that people are subscribed to.

3. Custom-made content services. With RSS, visitors can have personalized content services, allowing them total control of the flow and type of information that they receive. Depending on their interests and needs, visitors can subscribe to only those contents that they are looking for (such as real estate or job listings).

4. Increase in (and targeted) traffic. With RSS, traffic will be directed to your site as readers of your content summary (or 1 to 2 lines of your article) who find them interesting are 'forced' to click on a link back to your site.

These are just several of the many things that you can do with RSS. The possibilities are endless, and they are all aimed at providing you with an effective internet marketing strategy for your business.

7 overlooked Ebay Success

Written by maychaell on 7:33 PM

Last year alone, millions of people made a profit on e-bay. Some were just selling odds and ends, while some ran huge businesses exclusively on e-bay. The amount of commerce done on the internet is only expected to increase, making prospects for e-bay users bright. You very well may be one of the people who's discovered the great benefits of making money from e-bay auctions. I myself have been an e-bay user for a little over a year and have had great success with my auctions.

When my friend began her business on e-bay selling high end purses, it started out quite rocky. Her auctions weren't getting the hits she wanted and usually sold off of one bid, instead of creating the bidding frenzy that beautiful bags like she had should have!

So, she called me up knowing I had been successfully using e-bay for almost a year at the time. She gave me her login information (we're best friends- she trusts me!) and asked me to check her her sales and current auctions and see if I noticed where the problem was. When I saw her current auctions, alot became obvious!

So, I compiled a list of things that I had used which had made me successful which I suggested she implement into her own auctions. I even revised the auctions she had active at the time. One of those auctions- a gorgeous brown Coach purse- sold for $546.00. She had listed it for $125.00. It was her biggest sale yet and she was thrilled.

The funny thing is, the methods I use are not some internet guru secrets. They are just things I picked up during my time using e-bay, but seem to be overlooked alot of the time. Here are what I have found to be the top 7 overlooked tips for successful e-bay auctions:

1. The Importance of a Good Title- When you're creating a title for your auction, you've gotta think like a buyer. When I checked my friend's listings, she had a beautiful, brand new brown patchwork Coach purse titled as 'coach purse'. This is way too general! A buyer knows what they want; in your title, include color, any brand name, main keywords that people will search, and condition is possible. I changed her title to "Brown & Beige Patchwork Coach Purse-Brand New". By the next day, it had over 100 new hits. Previously her auctions were hardly even reaching 100 hits throughout the whole 5 days.

Another mistake people often make is writing things like 'The best wristwatch ever!!!!" Even if you do believe you're selling the best wristwatch ever, is this really what a buyer is searching for? Of course not. Use a more descriptive, detailed title like 'Gold Armani Wrist Watch w/ Leather Band-New".

One more thing when it comes to titles: make sure keywords are included. For example, whatever the item you're selling actually IS, include that in the title. On e-bay, I mostly sell high end women's heels. I always make sure to include in my title 'Womens Shoes" because this is a common keyword. An example of a title I would use is:

"Brown Marc Jacobs Womens Silver Stud Pumps Shoes"- I know that 'pumps shoes' sounds awkward, but many women will search for "marc jacobs womens shoes", and I want to be sure my item shows up in the results. Use these tips when creating your title and you'll be sure to see increased traffic to your auction.

2. Give honest descriptions- Sure, that stain, tear, or other defect may be sooo small that it's almost impossible to notice. Still, mention it in your auction. If you send an item out and a buyer realizes that the item has a defect that you didn't mention in the auction description, they will be disappointed and very possibly leave you negative feedback. Anyone familiar with e-bay knows that feedback is everything. It is what makes people feel comfortable buying from you and proves that you are a trustworthy, reliable buyer.

It's best to provide a photo of any defects so potential buyers can see what they're getting. And believe me, if you say that there's a defect but don't show a picture, people will e-mail you asking for some. I have sometimes had a defect so tiny on a shoe that I couldn't even get it to show up in a picture. If that's the case, say it! Provide a picture of the area where the defect is and also explain in your listing that it's so miniscule that you can't get it to show up in the picture. Buyers will trust you much more and be way more willing to buy from you in the future. You also won't have to deal with an unsatisfied customer who can damage your feedback rating and make future potential buyers hesitant or even completely dissaude them from buying from you.

3. Offer International Shipping- So often I see sellers who are providing great products but don't offer international shipping. Let me tell you- about 30% of my sales are to international buyers, and very often international buyers will pay more for products. I never understood why people are restraining their own sales potential by not offering international shipping.

Remember, the buyer is the one who pays the shipping, not you!! Even though international shipping is expensive, you are not paying it! And don't be discouraged thinking sending things internationally is difficult- it's super simple and not much different then sending things within the country. If you use USPS (the method I find most efficient for prices and service), you may have to fill out a short customs sheet that takes no more than a minute. Don't be lazy! Offer international shipping and see your sales soar!

4. Send a Thank You card with your purchase- You can get packs of black decorative cards from any general store, WalMart, or even discount chains like TJ Maxx. Buy a couple packs and with people's packages, send a nice thank you card.

You don't have to write a dialog, just a simple "Name of Buyer, Thanks so much for your bid! Enjoy your purchase, and I hope to do business with you in the future! Your Name or Business Name" If you want to really go all out and rake in some super feedback, include a small free gift. When I sell a pair of shoes I usually include a free headband or pair of earrings. If you'd like to try this out, try to find something that compliments whatever it is that you're selling. You could also include a little bag of candy or some tea light candles (go to the dollar store for great knick knacks and free gift ideas). Use your imagination to make your customers satisfied and loyal!

5. Offer combined shipping Buyers love combined shipping. If you offer a good combined shipping deal, and have more than one item they're interested in, they're ten times more likely to buy both items. Some people choose to determine combined shipping depending upon the two items the buyer is interested in, while others have set shipping rules. A good example is to charge $_.__ for the first item and offer to send the second item free, or for $1.00-$2.00 more. Usually the additional weight of the package isn't much so it's possible to offer combined shipping without losing any profit at all. Determine your own rates depending on the weight of the items you sell and the shipping service you use.

6.Keep communication with Buyers open and offer more pictures upon request. Of course in your listing you must include good pictures to attract buyers. Most people include 2-4 pictures per listing, depending on the size of the items and any special details you've got to show. I always include at least 3 pictures, and more if I feel the item needs more pictures of some detail it has that is unique.

Even though you have already provided your buyers with good pictures, it's helpful to write in your listing "Contact me with any questions or for more pictures. (with your contact info)" This is another method that makes buyers instantly trust you more and feel more comfortable placing bids. They feel that the communication lines are open and that they can get more info on the item if needed. And don't be discouraged thinking that you'll spend the whole day responding to e-mails requesting more photos; If you've already included good pictures, most people won't bother asking for more. Of over 50 listings where I've written this, only one person ever asked me for additional pictures. Check your e-mail though at least once a day to see if you've got any questions, people love quick responses and will reward you with good feedback for your effective communication.

7. Always use Delivery Confirmation- This is a biggie! Make sure that when you post your shipping costs, delivery confirmation costs are included so buyers aren't questioning the extrra expense when they receive their invoice. Delivery confirmation is a cheap effective way to ensure both your own and the buyer's investment.

First of all, you do not want to get scammed. What? Scammed? Yes, it happens. I know that most of the scamming referred to on e-bay is about sellers who scam their buyers, but don't be naive; we sellers are also at risk. Although the majority of the e-bay community is good people who are just trying to conduct legitimate transactions, there are those rotten apples which make it hard for all of us.

The usefulness of delivery confirmation was brought to my attention my an acquaintence of mine who does some selling on e-bay. He sold some very high quality digital remote for around $250.00. He shipped the item using delivery confirmation, and after about a week told me he received an e-mail from the buyer saing she'd never received the product. She filed a whole complaint with e-bay and made a big fuss about it. GOOD THING he had the delivery confirmation number and was able to prove that the product had been shipped to her address. Don't let one of these scammers get a chance to cheat you out of your money.

Making delivery confirmation a requirement is also something that will make serious bidders trust you more and see that you're a legitimate business person who wants to secure shipment. Think about it; if someone requests NOT to use delivery confirmation, you can guess where their intentions are. The extra .75 is not breaking anyone's piggy bank, so don't feel bad about it.

There you have it! Use these highly useful yet highly overlooked tips to generate more traffic to your auctions and enjoy higher sale prices. To e-bay success!

Track Your Visitors Outgoing Clicks

Written by maychaell on 9:24 AM

The biggest mystery online is traffic. Where does it come from? What times did they show up? What did they find interesting? Most of these question can be answered with Google Analytics, Sitemeter and Statcounter. But there is one question that still eludes us.

What outgoing or 'external link' did they click on? Which Buy Now button attracted more attention? Did they click on my Amazon link?

That's then I realized I had the answer within my own reach. I had recently purchased PHP Link Cloaker and realized it can help me answer all these questions.

It's all about creativity.

Here's what I did. After installing PHP Link Cloaker, I started assigning unique URL's to each link on my "sales page". Here is an example of the links I used (note, these links DO NOT work...they're just examples).

* http://www.google.com/recommends/Demo
* http://www.google.com/recommends/BuyNowTop
* http://www.google.com/recommends/BuyNowBottom

Can you see what I did? I gave each of my "Buy Now" buttons a unique URL. After 7 days or so, I'll be able to tell whether everyone is clicking on the Demo, Top Buy Now button or Bottom Buy Now button. Then you can hone your page accordingly.

Now Take it Even Farther

Let's say your sales page has Associate URL's from Amazon and a few Clickbank products. You'll be able to give each one it's own URL and see which is more popular. Then you can start honing your campaign from there. You'll be able to tell which link is more popular, which gets more clicks and you'll be able to cloak them all at the same time. This will keep your commissions protected and also allow you to easily change them in the near future.

I think you see the value of this product already. Also, it happens to be PHP/MySQL based with a secure, password-protected web admin area right on your own site. Finally, you can install it on all your sites with no restrictions.

But for those who were left to fight the barriers, there is a better way to navigate through the avenues of the internet. Solution is down to the different affiliate marketing techniques spelling out success.

The hype is an over exaggeration of every opportunity printed in your screens. A lot of people wanted to control the possibilities at hand and earn more than usual. People are now finding ways to venture in a kind of business where a huge amount of capital is not necessary. Because of the advent of the online market, influencing a home-based job, many wanted to submerge into the opportunity of making their desires into reality. And how can you survive the competition? Give in to the different marking techniques laid down below.

Technique # 1 - Choose a product that's definite.

Basing from the point of view of numerous customers, it is a must to give them their necessities. To do that, you must do a thorough research on the different kinds of products that are wanted in the market. Choose something that's definite and will count as a need more than a want.

Technique # 2- Create an avenue market.

It is better to find a definite place to sell something than move from one place to another in search for the perfect market. If you're not satisfied with the present way the market is being run, create your own avenue market where you can be stable and make it much easier for your customers to find you. Before settling on one site, be sure it goes hand-in-hand with the kind of product you are promoting.

Technique # 3 - Banner-less

Putting up numerous banners can only irritate those who will visit your site. That will give them more reason to leave immediately without even spending a moment or two to read your content.

Technique # 4 - Cloak your links.

Because of the emergence of the hype, people are more educated on how things work in the affiliate marketing industry. That is why, you have to protect your site by using a cloaking technique to prevent visitors from bypassing your site and moving on to another. Cloaking tools are available over the internet.

Technique # 5 - Write and submit your own articles

This will do you more good than harm. A lot of starting affiliates would think that it is nonsense to waste your time writing ridiculous articles. But the fact is, visitors are more into the content of your article than what you're offering. Offer unlimited information about your product without driving away your customers by rerouting your road to writing. You'll never know, there will come a time when your write-ups will get noticed by publishers and post it on their sites which is a good thing because it widens the scope of promoting your site and produce insurmountable amount of traffic.

To attain the universal rule in business of having 20% of affiliates and an 80% average income, you must follow these affiliate marketing techniques and someday, be the boss of your own marketing franchise.

There Are Business Blogs For That Purpose

Written by maychaell on 12:09 PM

Many industries have blogging networks, and these networks use the same social networking strategies as regular blog systems. This means small businesses have a place to go in order to get referrals, communicate with customers and post informational or advertorial pieces. Posting Advertisements online in the form of a social networking blog entry is counter-productive to basic blog etiquette.

One of the reasons that small business owners post advertisements in free-blog social networks is because they do not understand how to get their message out in an online venue or how to promote their message to get results. Believe it or not even seasoned business bloggers make errors in the way they go about their blogging.

It is for this reason that I believe someone ought to create a Free-eBook to help folks who run small businesses survive and thrive on a industry specific blogging networks. Below is the sample table of contents that someone ought to use to do just that. Such an eBook will those who own a small business and are considering blogging for business:

All about the Blog

Blogs are probably the easiest way to have a website. With blog software, it literally takes minutes to have a professional looking site up and running. These are the five things I like the most about blogs:

1) Blogs are easy to create:

You don’t need expensive or complicated web editors or web design software to create a blog. Blog vendors offer you a variety of templates you can choose from. Most likely you will find among them one that offers the look and feel you’re looking for. Your only web design expense may very well be to pay a graphics artist to design an attractive logo that makes your site unique.

2) Blogs are easy to maintain:

Blog software allows you to post online, which means that you won"t need to bother with FTP software. This also means that you can post anywhere, not just from your own computer. You may be in a hotel room in China, and if it has an internet connection you can log in and update your website from your web-based control panel. Your blog"s software will automatically move your most recent post to the top, while archiving older posts by date or by topic, so you don’t ever have to bother to move web pages around.

3) Blogs are search-engine-friendly:

Since blogs assign each post an individual URL address, each of them will have it’s own, separate web page. If you take care of making each post very focused on a specific topic and carefully choose the keywords that best describe your post (using them in the post title and post body), they will stand a very good chance of ranking well with the search engines. Also, since blogs tend to be updated regularly, search engines will crawl them often (search engines love fresh content), adding your new posts to their index.

4) Blogs allow you to interact with your customer base:

The best websites allow your customers to interact with you and give feedback. Since blogs offer you the option of enabling a "comments" field after your posts where readers can give you feedback, your visitors will not only be more inclined to come back, but you will have at your disposal an effective and inexpensive way to get to know your customers better.

5) Many great blog hosts are free:

There are several excellent services that offer blog hosting for free. The most well known of them is Blogger, a free blog service owned by Google. Signing up takes minutes, it offers many different templates and customization options, and also gives you the option of tying your blog with your Google Adsense account. That way, not only is the service free, but you can also make money. The downside to all these great advantages is that they have encouraged the creation of a huge number of me-too and low quality blogs that don’t add value and hardly get any traffic. Don’t fall into that trap. Before jumping to create a blog, remember that to be successful you must write about a focused and original topic, or offer a unique perspective on a common theme. In the end, as the cliché says, it all boils down to quality content.

Traffic & Mailing List in 5 Easy Steps, Affiliate Commissions

Written by maychaell on 9:09 AM

If you're looking to successfully promote your affiliate products and avoid shooting yourself in the foot and derailing your marketing efforts read on...

Do you know what the number one way to promote any product or service online is? No, it's not creating big, splashy product launches or flooding blogs and forums with thinly disguised marketing ads that might get you banned for spamming.

Article writing has long been highly touted as the SIMPLEST and BEST way to promote your products on the Internet. It is an easy, proven method for driving targeted visitors to your pages or blogs. Sales are much easier to make when your visitors arrive on your sales pages already wanting your affiliate products or services.

Most tutorials and "How To Market Online" ebooks have the same, somewhat vague advice on how to market with articles submitted to directories and ezines. Sure, they all tell you to write an article of 300-500 words, stressing the benefits of using the latest widget or joining some membership community. They also tell you to include a tantalizing offer to capture the reader's curiosity and to submit your article to as many article directories as you can.

That's all accurate advice and pretty standard across the Web, but, since most people haven't got a clue about how to use their articles to generate REAL INTEREST in their affiliate products, it's pretty much incomplete or useless advice.

Think about it.. . why did you write your article in the first place? Regardless of how beautiful your actual prose is, your ONLY reason for writing articles is to send targeted traffic to your offers. That means you have to attract interest and create enough curiosity to make your readers click on your link that sends them to your landing page or sales page. If your article doesn't do that, your marketing efforts will not generate income for you.

To complete the article marketing process, here's five simple steps you can use to get the job done for you.

#1... Focus!

Select the product or service you want to promote and sign up as an affiliate. This will get you an affiliate ID that you will include in all links to the product you are promoting. That affiliate ID lets the company know who gets the commissions when customers you send through your efforts buy their product or services.

For your first venture, stick with ONE product or service. Don't join everything that comes your way. You will become too scattered to be an effective marketer. What you are doing here, in the first step of this plan, is selecting your affiliate product to market with your articles.

Don't complicate it. Before you can create a simple and powerful marketing plan, you have to know WHAT you are specifically marketing. Most successful marketers advise using the product or service before you start marketing it and that's very good advice.

How can you tell your readers all about the benefits of using your product if you've never used it yourself? Your short article has to reflect YOUR OWN PASSION about the product to stimulate clicks on your links.

#2... Plan Your Strategy!

This sounds more difficult than it really is. When you're writing your marketing article, you focus your content on creating and building up your desired response from the reader. That response would be clicking on your link to get MORE information or a better solution to a problem they might have. Initially, you give them enough good quality information to make them want more.

Here's an example. Let's say you are marketing "Forever Shining" car wax.

Your title would be something like, "How To Keep Your Car Looking Brand New For Years" or "5 Easy Steps To Increase Your Car's Value."

Your article would list several important benefits of just waxing your car like a gleaming finish that also protects from bird droppings, keeping your car paint from fading with sun exposure, keeping that brand new look or, it only needs to be applied once a month. Include a tip or two for each benefit you list. Your ONLY purpose here is to provide good content and tips to make the reader's task easier.

Then, you drop the bomb: "If you want to wax your car ONCE A YEAR, instead of once a month, and still get superior protection, Check This Out!"

Your affiliate link to your sales page would be behind the "Check This Out." So, if you are sending your customer directly to the product's main sales page, they go wrapped in your affiliate ID. If you are sending them to your own sales page, make sure that any link on that page has your affiliate ID behind it.

See how that works? It's simple, but powerful. Your article on the benefits and tips to make car waxing easier is useful information your reader can implement immediately. The simple money-maker for you is your very strong, unspoken, enticement to be able to spend weekends fishing or watching sports on TV, rather than waxing their car in their garage.

#3... Use Tips And Tutorials To Your Advantage!

Internet surfers are universally looking for the same two things:

* INFORMATION they need for their own knowledge or to complete a project, like "Why do I need renter's insurance?" or "How do I make a macrame plant hanger?" for example.

* SOLUTIONS to everyday problems they have, like "How do I get my teenager to clean up her room?" or "Why do my roses die before they actually bloom?"

It's not brain surgery. Your task is to uncover the need and provide information to ease that need or steps to solve the problem in your articles. Don't forget the strong statement that leads them to even more information or much better solutions.

Your article titles have a great influence on starting that curiosity twitch in your readers that leads to clicks on your links.

QUESTIONS are powerful titles that encourage readers to click on your article to find out the answer. Here's a couple of examples. Fill in the blanks to suit your purposes.

"Want To ____________ Your _____________?" or

"Do You Know How to ___________?"

The title on this article is: "Explode Your Affiliate Commissions, Traffic & Mailing List in 5 Easy Steps"

It could just as easily have been: "Do You Know The 5 Simple Steps to Increase Your Income?" or any other version of that statement.

NUMBERED LISTS are a second very good option for titles. People like "To Do Lists" and follow your link to see what the ___ steps are.

"10 Amazing Ways To Reduce Your ________ " or

"Double Your Online Income With 6 Simple Tricks Of The Trade"

STEP-BY-STEP TUTORIALS are always welcomed by your readers who want to learn how to do or accomplish something by themselves. Your tutorials have several powerful benefits for your marketing plan that the other two options mentioned do not have.

* eMail delivery is simple and can be set up with an autoresponder so each step is delivered on a specific schedule without your intervention. Each step is delivered on a different day, usually a few days or a week apart.

* Increased marketing possibilities for each step that will keep your message and products in front of your readers, increasing chances for purchases. If your tutorial is full of good content and easy-to-follow directions, you will create a credibility factor with your readers that will develop loyalty to your projects. Money can't buy that!

* List-building is much easier with a good tutorial. Encourage reader feedback; get them involved to build a sense of "belonging." With each email tutorial step, ask for opinions about the subject or questions or just comments. If that doesn't suit your style, send an occasional extra email to your list and ask for their input. You could get several good topics for more tutorials. If you don't create a responsive, loyal list, you do not have a market, which equals no sales.

All you have to do here, or with any of these three tried-and-true methods, is decide what result you want from your article, provide the content to accomplish that result and publish it.

It really is as simple as it sounds. Visit article directories and read some articles that interest you. Develop an outline of the strategies used by those authors and you have your own template.

#4... Light Their Fire!

A very simple process to determine both the content and the flow of your article, keeping in mind the result you want when someone reads it, is to use the old outline technique you hated in school.

Make a list of the main points you want to include in your article. Don't be too critical here, just list them as they pop into your head...just the two or three-word points. When you finish doing that, arrange the points in some logical order to accomplish your marketing purpose, which is creating a desire to want more information and to click on the link to your sales page.

Once your list of points is arranged to suit your purpose, start expanding on each one, writing one or two short paragraphs or several sentences for each one. Make sure you are providing outstanding, quality content and not just fluff or filler content.

If your points motivate your readers to want more from you or challenge their old ways of thinking, you just created a customer. The secret here is to give them enough to create curiosity, generate questions they want answered and jump start their passion for the subject you are writing about.

Sounds like a lot for a short article to accomplish, doesn't it? It isn't. Successful Internet Marketers are doing it all day long and they don't waste time on methods that don't work.

#5... Wrap It Up And Set It Free!

There are five critical finishing touches that, if not completed before you publish your article, will result in you shooting yourself in the foot and derailing your marketing efforts. If you remember, I mentioned this at the beginning of this post.

First, REREAD YOUR ARTICLE with a critical eye. Answer these questions while you read it:

1. Is the information provided really useful?

2. Is it easy to understand and not peppered with confusing "insider" jargon?

3. Does it deliver the message to your readers that you wanted to deliver?

4. Does it make your reader want to know more?

Before moving on to the next step, read your article out loud and listen for awkward phrasing and poor grammar. Fix any you find before moving on.

Next, CHECK OUT YOUR RESOURCE BOX and make sure the information there really promotes your offer. You wrote this article to promote your affiliate product and your final message to your readers, your resource box, has to put the icing on it and motivate a click on the link to your sales page. It's why you wrote the article in the first place.

If you are not sure what to put in there, visit the article directories once again and you will notice that most of the resources boxes are essentially the same. Don't be afraid to copy success!

The last task you need to finish before sending your article off to do the work it was designed to do is one last PROOFING FOR ERRORS of any sort. Don't do this yourself. You are no longer objective and your tendency will be to read what you want it to say, rather than what it actually does say.

Ask a friend or relative to do it for you and listen to what they tell you. They will be reading it like your potential readers will. You don't want to make a bad impression with something as easily corrected as misspelled words or bad grammar.

You ready? Let's get it published and working for you.

Send a copy to your favorite list of publishers. Don't have a list? Google for some and you will probably be overwhelmed. Submit it to article directories...the more the better. Just be sure you read their individual submission guidelines and take them seriously before you do it. You don't want your article declined because of something easy to fix, like not having Every Word In Your Title Start With A Capital Letter.

If you have a newsletter or blog, don't forget to publish it yourself. You'd be surprised how many new authors forget to do this. You can even email it to your list if you think they would be interested in the valuable content you just created. Your task from now on is: Market! Market! Market!

Finally, if you haven't skipped any of the tips and techniques listed above, your efforts should start producing sales for you when your article gets published. Take a deep breath and relax for a moment. You have researched, organized, written and published your first marketing article. You have a working template you can use over and over.

Know what comes next?

Do it again!
